How to build a sofa table...

My new sofa table!!!!
Making this table with my man was so fun! First thing we did was get all of our supplies...

{wood, screws, tape measure, screw driver}

The nice guys at Home Depot even cut our wood for us to the measurements we wanted...for free! Thanks Home Depot guys! Yep...that totally saved us a few hundred dollars in power tools that day :)

The next thing we did was put together the frame that will go under the table top. The dimensions for the frame is 8" x 34".

Next add the legs. The legs are made from a 1"x 3" and a 1"x2" to form a corner that the bottom shelf can just sit nice and snug in. Then attach the legs to the frame. The legs were about 29" tall.

This was a fun step...get out the level and make sure you get that shelf in just the right spot...

The last step in the construction process is to add the table top. We made sure the top was very secure by adding screws in the middle on the frame as well as the corners. And now you have a great unfinished table!!!

Now comes the fun stuff- putty and PAINT!!!
This made painting go a lot smoother. I really like the fact that you really can't see where any of the screws are. Gives it a nice smooth finish.

Black is just so classy looking.

Add a few decorations and put it in its place and you have one great sofa table!!! {Check out how to make these super cute AUTUMN blocks here!

  1. I like this idea and am sure I could do it. So sleek and, dare I say, sexy (the table, not I). Thanks for the tutorial.

  6. So nice, looks great. I'm late to the party, tho, but I want to make one. I was wondering how thick the wood was for table table and the bottom shelf. 1/2" maybe? Thank you.
